Meet Captain Morgan Whitehead

Vancouver Island Fishing Guide

Captain Morgan Whitehead, the owner and operator of Captn’s Sportfishing, has spent most of his life on the water developing a deep respect for fishing and the outdoors. His love for fishing began at a young age and grew into a lifelong passion that eventually became his full-time profession. Today, Morgan is known not only for his skill as a guide but also for his calm, patient, and friendly approach with guests of all ages. Whether he is welcoming first-time anglers or hosting seasoned fishermen, he treats every trip as a chance to share his knowledge and love for the ocean.

With more than 25 years of experience and over 30,000 hours on the water, Captain Morgan is one of the most experienced Vancouver Island fishing guides operating today. He is a professional certified tidal angling guide with extensive hands-on knowledge of Pacific Northwest fisheries. Operating seasonally out of Port Renfrew and Comox, he runs both nearshore and offshore trips for salmon, halibut, and crab depending on the time of year. Safety is a top priority on every trip, with full safety briefings, Transport Canada–approved equipment, and well-maintained vessels. This commitment to professionalism and preparation has helped make Captn’s Sportfishing a trusted name for family-friendly fishing charters on Vancouver Island.

What sets Captain Morgan apart is his results-driven approach combined with a strong respect for conservation and responsible fishing practices. He carefully follows seasonal regulations, size limits, and ethical harvest guidelines to help protect local fish stocks for future generations. Guests regularly comment on his ability to read tides, weather patterns, and fish movement to stay on productive grounds throughout the day. His reputation is built on consistency, honesty, and giving every group a high-quality experience rather than rushing trips or cutting corners. For visitors interested in deep sea fishing on Vancouver Island, Morgan’s local knowledge and steady leadership provide confidence from the moment you step aboard.

Depending on the season, guests fish aboard one of two well-equipped Northwest boats. In Port Renfrew, trips run on a 28-foot Northwest pilothouse boat with seating for up to five guests, downriggers, quality electronics, and an onboard toilet for comfort during long days. Winter trips in Comox operate on a 28-foot Northwest aluminum fishing boat that can carry up to six guests and features downriggers, modern navigation systems, and a clean onboard bathroom. Both vessels are designed for stability, safety, and comfort, giving guests a smooth ride and a productive day on the water. When you fish with Captn’s Sportfishing, you are not just booking a charter, you are fishing with a guide who truly knows Vancouver Island waters inside and out.
